Continuous "Now scanning..." status

Hi, there has been a bug with my Maximum Security program. It says on the icon that it is "Scanning now...." this status has been on for weeks now and it is preventing the program from downloading updates and also preventing me from having any scan. May I know what is the best way to solve this issue?  I am using a desktop with Windows 10.
