Chrome Crashing

Hi,
After doing a recent Windows 10 upgrade, my Chrome Browser won't start up and it seems to be related to a plug-in that it uses for 1Password. When I switch off Trend Micro Max Security - all works ok. So seems to be something to do with Trend Micro - but I am not sure if source of problem is Chrome, Windows, 1Password or Trend micro - any suggestions?

Hi @Dean Robinson and welcome to Trend Micro Community!

Thank you for posting your concern here.

For your concern, may we know if you have tried to disable the Trend Micro program by using the Trend Micro diagnostic toolkit?

Can I also ask if you are using the 1password application? If not, will it be alright to remove it to test if the issue is because of the conflict between the Trend Micro program and the 1password program?

May I also know the version of your Google Chrome?

Let me also inform that the Maximum Security program has a bundled password manager. Since you have a subscription for it, you can use that as a password manager to substitute the 1password application to manager your passwords.

You may refer to the knowledge base article on this link  to setup the password manager - Downloading, installing and activating Password Manager on Windows and Mac

Enjoy the rest of the weekend! :)

Hi Victor,
Thanks for your quick response.
I disabled Trend Micro by simply right clicking on the icon of my system tray and selecting exit. So I do not think this means using the diagnostic toolkit. Should I do something using the toolkit, and if so, what?
Yes - I am using the 1password application. I did think of removing it from Chrome and maybe doing a reinstall, but I could not locate in Chrome where the plug in is managed from. This lead me on a bit of a unresolved search. I am using this version of Chrome:
Version 59.0.3071.104 (Official Build) (64-bit)

The old Chrome Plugins view/settings does not seem to exist any more - so I cannot find out how I disable the 1Password plug in. I found this article that implies that Google recently shut off the ability for any plug ins - but I am not sure how legitimate this is.:

If you have any ideas on how I can find the plug-in to disable it - that would be a good start for me.

Thanks for letting me know about the Maximum Security password manager. I have been using 1Password for many years now without problems, but will take a look at the Maximum Security offering to see if a change is warranted. However, I have over 200 credentials in my 1Password application at present and I will need to look at what effort and support is provided for me getting that into the Maximum Security offering. In the meantime, I would like to work out how I can continue using Chrome - 1Password without having to turn off Trend Micro.

Regards,
Dean

Hi @Dean Robinson and thank you for the quick update.

For the uninstallation, can I ask you to try with the use of Control Panel?

To open it, please press the Windows logo key and the R key together on your keyboard to open the run window. Then type in appwiz.cpl and click on Ok.

The new window that would open is the Programs and Features. It is a list of the softwares installed on your computer. Please try to check if you have the software installed there. If it is, you may try to install it.

Note: This action might also delete your saved passwords on the 1Password application. I apologize but we do not know if the that application can sync your passwords to another location like the Trend Micro password manager does. If that application can make a backup copy, please do it first before proceeding with the uninstallation.

Hi Victor,
I have now uninstalled the 1Password application and the extension/plug-in that was in Chrome. I even re-installed Chrome.
Now when I go to start up Chrome, I don't get any response whatsoever - nothing happens. No "Aw Snap", No error message - just nothing.
If I switch off Trend Micro Max Security and then click on Chrome - starts no problems. So problem seems to be something to do with be running Chrome on my Windows 10 Microsoft Surface Pro with Trend Micro.
Where to from here?

Contacted support - they had me put an application exception in Trend Micro for Chrome.exe

Done.

Hi Dean Robinson,

I have read through your previous chat session and do you still get any problems after adding the program on Exception List?
