Can Windows Defender and Trend Micro Maximum Security both be active on a Windows 10 PC?

Windows Defender is turned off on my PC. I didn't take this action and wonder whether Trend Micro turns it off because of possible clashes.

Hi BillH. Yes Trend Micro does disable Windows Defender. My guess is that TM is more secure. I've used them for years now and my computers have not been disrupted in any way, so it should not be a problem for you. One thing I do with my Trend Micro settings is put everything on max or "hypersensitive" so I have the most protection offered.

Trend Micro does turn off Windows Defender automatically after Trend Micro gets installed. However, the user can set Windows Defender to limited Period scanning but it is up to the person if he/she wants to do that. I also did turn on Windows Defender only for limited period scanning, but I turned it off permanently but I won't do it again because I don't see any reason to turn on the limited period scanning.

Trend Micro is the number 1 antivirus software :)

Hi @woodartisan55 @ahsans, thanks for using our product and providing the answer. We really appreciate your help!

Hi @BillH, thank you for renewing our product!

For your question, as a matter of fact, Windows Defender will be disabled automatically when installing Trend Micro Security software. This default change is to avoid conflict since Windows Defender is a Microsoft's built-in anti-virus protection and having more than one anti-virus program usually causes a conflict. So it's not advised to run two antivirus programs on the same machine.

Please let us know if your question is answered. Thank you!

Thanks for your responses. I have been happily using TrendMicro for years both at work and home. I just wanted assurance that nothing untoward had caused Defender to be turned off. My question has been answered, thanks

@BillH Windows Defender will still be in the background working if you should move to a site where threatening software is hidden they block the download. So all is double checked for your protection. In the new Windows Defender it is not all the way down. I do remember years ago that when I installed Windows XP there was a bug inside the messenger site. This was where Windows did send you after installing, but the leak put in spy software. It showed up as soon Trend Micro was installed.
With the new install version of Windows 10, this problem is solved. You are protected from minute 1.
As other people conform, Windows sets itself down, but still is in the background.

Windows Defender has disabled my Trend Micro AV program! I no longer can get the TM to launch at all. Should I do a restore point back to last week when TM was active?

Hi Kathy,

never start a new treat in a old discussion!
I think you better do a new install with th 2018 version.
