can I scan emails for viruses, Trojans, etc.?

I'd like to know if I can scan emails for viruses, Trojans, etc., or does Trend Micro Maximum do this automatically?

Thank you for contacting us in our new support community! For your question, Trend Micro Maximum Security can scan emails for viruses (including Trojans) by filtering emails that come into your Microsoft Outlook, Windows Live Mail and Outlook Express email programs. Enabling this feature requires turning on the Email Scanning feature in the Maximum Security Console. We have an online help document that explains how to turn on the Email Scanning feature:
Turning on or off the Email Scanning feature of Trend Micro Security software

(Go to "Internet And Email Controls" section, "Spam and emailed files" procedures)

After turning on the Email Scanning feature, Maximum Security will perform the scan automatically, and any malicious attachments will be blocked. If you use other mail programs than Microsoft Outlook, Windows Live Mail and Outlook Express, this feature will not work. Additionally, if you use email service's website directly (e.g.,, then Email Scanning feature won’t work.
