Big-time performance issue for entire network

On our Windows peer-peer network, we have one Windows 7 Pro PC that is dedicated to storing all data files, and performing daily backups. After installing Trend Micro Maximum Security 10 last week, everyone has complained about how long Outlook takes to open (normally 5-10 seconds, but now 60-75 seconds). All Outlook .PST files are on the "server" PC. We discovered that turning off real-time protection on the "server" solves the performance problem with Outlook. Since the "server" PC rarely is used as a workstation, we wish to disable real-time protection and rely on a daily scheduled full scan to protect all files. How do we configure the software to prevent real-time scanning from enabling?

Sorry that you're having problems with our product. For your question on how to disable real-time scanning on your Win 7 Pro "Server", here're the steps:
  1. Open the main console of your Trend Micro Maximum Security software.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Scan Preferences.
  4. Uncheck "Scan for threats when opening, saving, or downloading files" setting.
  5. Click OK or Apply.

Since Real-Time Scan also scans files and folders downloaded or copied onto your "server", for your safety, please really make sure you lock down the server so that it's not doing much except serving the PST files to your workstations, and check that scheduled scans are performing properly. It takes just one malicious file on that machine to create trouble.

Another feature that might impact performance is the Trend Micro Antispam Toolbar in Outlook. If you have this feature running on all the Outlook clients, you can consider turning it off to see if it also reduces performance impact. Here's a help doc for that:
Using the Antispam Toolbar of Trend Micro Security

Please let us know if the solution works for you. If not, please reply and we'll assist you further. Thanks!

Is there a way to disable the real time protection so that it doesn't turn back on after 30 minutes or once the computer restarts?  I would like to disable real time protection permanently

In the above steps, the "Scan for threats when opening, saving, or downloading files" setting is Trend Micro Maximum Security's "Real-time scan" setting, though the wording doesn't say that directly. Below is a screenshot for your reference.

Anyway please let us know if disabling this solves your problem.
