Hello,

I am using the Trend Maximum security on a laptop, connected to internet via a 4G connection. Due to the fact that the Trend automatic update will run everey day, to check available updates, it will eat all my data-bundle already the first few days.

Therefor, is there a possibility, to turn off the automatic update?

Alternative would be, that Trend is changing the update policy, by not not sending the update file first, and then checking if it is required, but first check if there is an update (checking version-numbers), and then download the required file to update the PC/Laptop.

This will save lots of data bundles.

Thanks,

Hi glscholtens and welcome to the community!

As of the moment, there is no way to turn off the automatic update for the program because this is required for the software. The updates being released consists latest patterns of malware and patches for the product. These are essential to the software and if your program is not up to date, it may caused either an issue with the program or your computer might get infected.
However, if you are using either Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 you have the option to turn on the Download over metered connections feature, you may temporarily turn this feature off then perform a manual update on your Trend Micro program.

Please follow the steps below on where to find Download over metered connections feature :

1. Click on the Windows Key or Windows logo on the lower left corner of your screen.
2. Click Settings, then click Devices.
3. Go to Connected devices.

Let us know if there is anything else that we can help you with.

Thank you and have a great day!

Thanks, but that will solve the problem partly.
Most of the connected hardware is running on Windows-7.

The only solution I do see, is un-installing the Trend software, and select another virus-scan package, which is not updating automatically.

Hi glscholtens and thank you for your response.

We do understand that you would like to have an antivirus program that doesn't have to update automatically, however please be informed that it is also essential to have an antivirus program that gets antivirus updates in real time. This is because due to the increase in risk from getting threats online, getting the most up-to-date patterns is important to keep your device safe at all times. What you want for the program beats it's purpose so please understand why we don't have that functionality built into it.

We will understand if you wish to uninstall it. Though if you wish to still use it, I recommend that you use Wifi instead of mobile data.

Let us know if there is anything else that we can help you with.

Thank you and have a great day!

Hi glscholtens,

I understand that you want an antivirus software that won't affect and eat your data due to being updated everyday for security reasons. There's one antivirus that I know of and you will definitely like and this antivirus doesn't use updates on a regular basis and updates everyday. This antivirus is cloud based in technical terms it means that all updates happen in the cloud. I have used it before in the past and at present it is a really good antivirus and it got improved over the past few years or so. This antivirus name is Panda Cloud Antivirus. There's Basic/Advanced/Complete/Premium/Free
http://www.pandasecurity.com/usa/homeusers/solutions/free-antivirus/

If you use your computer for many purposes like password manager/device/online shopping/optimization/parental controls/data shield and backup/control your smartwatch, and etc I suggest you go for the complete protection, advanced, premium. It's your choice and before you choose one It will show you which version of Panda antivirus is right for you. If you use your computer just for browsing, need wifi-protection (protect your wireless network against hackers and intruders, protection from hackers, protection from online fraud, secure communication (Secure your wifi network) I suggest you go for Panda Cloud Basic (Pro version) protection because it gives you good value for money.

It is your computer and it is your choice of which antivirus you want to get. No one will force you. I have used many free and paid antivirus but I have finally made my decision to go for Trend Micro and I will forever stick with Trend Micro.

But remember every antivirus software ain't 100% so I suggest you have MalwareBytes Antimalware installed. It works well with all antivirus, but this uses updates for security reasons. Just use this once every month to download these updates and do a full system scan. I uses this also and do updates and full system scan once every month.

Good Luck :-)
