As a long-term customer of about the same number of years of usage, I know what you mean. Personally, I've looked for "deals" on the T.M. site. This past year I found that it was less expensive to buy for 5 devices rather than one by searching the website. Here's an answer in a post regarding the same issue from some time ago. Good luck!

The Automatic renewal charge that you have received is based on the product's original price with only 10% discount.
