Hello tritons-realm and welcome to the community,

Thanks for asking here.

That is correct, the icon of the Trend Micro program will change for every specific task, that is intentionally made to let our users know if it is working, activated or disabled. If you will point your cursor to the icon, it will show you a message of what the program is doing.

I hope I was able to answer your questions.

Thank you and have a great week ahead!

Sadly that didn't answer the question. Before an update the icon in the system tray would be "greyed out" until protection was up and running at which point it turned red. Why has this stopped? The icon is now red all the time so I can't tell when the starting up procedure has ended and the protected stae is in operation.

Hi Phil,

First of all your computer is protected at startup, so red icon at the beginning, than he is doing also a quick scan at startup, when finished  there is a window at the tray. If you do a scan from there the icon got 2 arrows, to show you he is busy and at the end a rapport window.
Hope this helps you to trust on TM!

Kind regards,
Tom

Thanks Tom. I didn't realise the computer was protected immediately; I thought I had to wait until it changed from "Starting your protection" to "Protected",

Hi Phil,

If you want to be more sure put this in first place.

Go in de main menu, to settings / other settings and choose "Extra security"

Good luck.

Kind regards,
Tom

Hi phil,

The gray and red color is another sign we implemented on the program to let you know if the program is working or not. All of Tom's answer are correct.

Hi Tom Emmelot,

You're simply the best!

Cheers for this!
