Have you tried to add that website under the exception list of your Trend Micro program?

If not yet, please try to add it so that Trend Micro can block that specific website:

it only appears when Chrome is started - it keeps flashing SPAM from 1.mirnews24.com

Hi David Leahy,

It seems that you are experiencing a website redirection.

Can you try to check the target of your Google Chrome properties? To do that, please follow the steps below:
  1. Right-click Google Chrome shortcut on your desktop, then click Properties.
  2. Click Shortcut tab.
  3. On the target field, delete the excess string aside from the shortcut link of the browser (e.g., "http://istartsurf.com").                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Delete excess string
  4. Click Apply, then click OK.

If the problem still persist, try to reset your Google Chrome browser and do the following:

I. Back up your Bookmarks
   To backup your bookmarks, do the following:
  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. On the upper right-hand corner of your browser, click Customize and control Google Chrome.Customize and control Google Chrome button
  3. Click Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  4. On the upper right-hand corner of your browser, click Organize.Organize
  5. Click Export Bookmarks.
  6. Select a location where the file will be saved (E.g. Desktop).
  7. Set a File Name (E.g. bookmark.html).
  8. Click Save.

II. Reset your Google Chrome
   Reset Google Chrome to default setting by doing the following:
  1. Click the Chrome Menu Chrome Menu icon, then click Settings.
  2. At the bottom of the page, click the Show advanced settings link.
  3. Scroll down, then click Reset Settings.
  4. Click Reset.
III. Reset your Google Chrome shortcut icon
   To reset the shortcut icon, do the following:
  1. Right-click the Google Chrome icon, then click Delete.
  2. Go to C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\application.
  3. Right-click chrome.exe.
  4. Click Send To.
  5. Click Desktop (create shortcut).
  6. Unpin Google Chrome from taskbar and Start Menu.

IV. Change your search engine to default
   To revert your search engine to default, do the following:
  1. Open Google Chrome
  2. On the upper right-hand corner of your browser, click Customize and control Google Chrome .Customize
  3. Click Settings.Settings
  4. Scroll down to Search engine sections, then select Manage search engines.Manager Search Engine
  5. Click the three dots at the right side of the link, then click Make Default.Make default
  6. Remove Uncommon Search Engines.
  7. Click Done, then close Google Chrome.
V. Check for unnecessary toolbars
   To disable unnecessary toolbars, do the following:
  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. On the upper right-hand corner of your browser, click Customize and control Google Chrome.
  3. Hover the mouse to More Tools.
  4. Click Extensions.
  5. Check the list for unnecessary extensions, toolbars and add-ons.
  6. Click Remove.
  7. Close the browser, then reopen it.
VI. Check for unnecessary programs in Control Panel
  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows Windows Key + R keys.
  2. In the Open field, type "appwiz.cpl", then press ENTER. The Programs and Features window will open.
  3. Check the program list for suspicious toolbar programs and uninstall it.
