What are Travel Scams? — American Airlines, Airbnb, and Booking.com

What are Travel Scams? — American Airlines, Airbnb, and Booking.com

The holidays are fast approaching and border restrictions are lifted in many countries. Are you starting to think of your fall vacation? Though it's important to book ahead to get the best deals and discounts, it is also important that we know how to score the best deals from legitimate websites. There are tons of fake bookings, phishing promo emails, and fake discounts across the internet. Beware of these Travel Scams!

Here are the common schemes and tactics spotted by our Trend Micro Check Team.

How do travel scams work?

  • American Airlines Gift Card Scam

    • Just like a typical phishing email, the goal is to trick you to participate in a survey in exchange for a too-good-to-be-true exclusive reward or a Gift Card.

If you fall for this trick, they'll have your personal info hostage and they can use it for cybercrimes.

  • Fake Hotel Booking Websites

    • Scammers are the masters of creating fake websites that look identical to legitimate ones at the first glance. If you don't pay attention while booking you are probably booking with fake AirBnB and Booking.com.

These fake websites are designed to collect all personal information that victims will enter. Look at these fake websites carefully!
