TM lowest detection rate in AV Comparatives for March 2023

With 97% detection rate , TM is the last among all antiviruses tested.

Even Microsoft Defender (free) blocked 99.98%.

We, the paying users, have been saying this for long time, but nooo...TM is more preoccupied with  "Laughter is timeless. Imagination has no age. And dreams are forever."

At a certain point we have to stop dreaming and recognize the reality that TM is a subpar product.

Hi Community Champion @claudiubotezatu ,

I appreciate your concern about the Trend Micro Detection Rate as reported by AV Comparatives for March 2023.

Samples used in the Malware Protection Test included both recent in the wild malware and also aging malware which has not been seen in last 6 months and older.

The Malware Protection Testing is not to simulate real user scenarios and we are more focus on the real user detection which you can see our detection result in the “Real-World Protection” which is 100% detection rate among vendors.

For the missed detection in Malware Protection Testing, we are continuously investing in research and development to improve our product's detection capabilities. Trend Micro has consistently performed well in the Real-World Protection Test. This indicates that Trend Micro's products are highly effective at protecting against real-world threats, providing customers with reliable and comprehensive security solutions.

@tm_camile

The March 2023 test , in which TM detected only 97% , had 10,015 malware samples; TM missed more than 300.

The "Real-World test Feb- Mar 2023" had 260 live test cases (malicious URLs) and TM has 27FPs. (so more than 10%)

Microsoft Defender (free) also detected 100% and had only 2FPs.

So nothing to be proud of!

@tm_camile Trend Micro have received Best android security award, Best Macos security award by av test and Best Protection for enterprise version. But I think it is not the ideal AV for windows. I check for usb and scan it with different AVs to make sure it does not have any malwares in it after I use it over an unknown PC. Trend Micro clearly needs to improve its performance in malware test of av comparatives. Also I dont feel much safe while checking documents files as I have seen it not detecting malicious documents before. Not comparing but other AVs like Kaspersky, Avast and Eset detects malicious documents most of the time. It needs major changes in its engine and my suggestion as a feedback is try to integrate av engines of other AVs with Trend Micro's own engines. Like F Secure uses its own engines and avira engine as well. This can enhance detection ratio and improve overall user experience.

@claudiubotezatu waiting for the day when Trend Micro gets 99% or 95% threats in this test scenario of AV Comparatives consistently. As I recall once it had detected 100% in this test of AV comparatives in the past. But clearly it needs major improvement here. AVs like k7 are outperforming Trend Micro by a huge gap.

Yes, but same samples were used for all AVs tested; it puzless my mind that Microsoft Defender which is free, performs better than TM on both Malware Protection Test and Real-word Protection Test
