When you install the Trend Micro security software to a device, if you already reached the license limit, it would ask you to take out a device before you can install it to another device.  At this time, you can take your unwanted device out of the list.

You may want to check the link post that Reine provided above and also wingkwongng's good advice.

Hope this helps.

I have only one device registered, but there are 5 other devises on the Protected Devices list. None of which I know, and I can't remove.

How can they be removed? What can I do?

If you go to your Trend Micro Account, you can manage your devices there.  Just highlight the one you want to remove, and a X will show up in the top right corner.  Click that to remove the device.
