Can't scan or update SW.

Receiving this error anytime I attempt to begin a scan or manually check for SW updates: "You cannot get started on this until you have finished receiving an update or running a scan. Please try again later." No update is running, nore is there an update downloading or installing. I have closed Trend Micro and rebooted PC a couple of times, no help.
