Password Manager Android app will not accept CORRECT master password after re-installation of app

The Password Manager phone app for Android no longer synced my passwords - new passwords I entered on my PC were not available on the phone. It still worked with the old ones, though.
Therefore I installed the latest version of the Password Manager App for Android.
I signed into my Trend Micro Account as asked.
And now the App will not accept my Master Password and - yes, of course - I verified beyond any doubt that it was the correct password.
Could it be that the new version of the app no longer supports special characters? And wouldn't that be an awfully weak performance for an app that is supposed to make your passwords safer?

By the way: the master password still works fine on my PC.

Technical stuff:
Phone: Huawei P10 lite, Android 8.0

Edit: Since I saw it in a different thread: my password is shorter than 20 characters. This can't be the issue.
