Is Trend Micro only useable on a single device? If I try to load it on my iPad it wants to uninstall from my iPhone … very annoying.

It depends on your Trend Micro subscription, bjmacldn.
We have a subscription for 1 device and for multiple devices. Upon checking here, your current subscription is for 1 device only.
And for the VPN, it is used by the Web Guard feature. It protects you from explicit or unwanted websites when you are browsing through your mobile. You may refer to this link for more info:
