Trend Micro disabled on start up

When I started up my laptop this a.m. I had 2 messages:

1. Windows Defender had been disabled.

2. Trend Micro had expired, but would remain until a new provider had been installed, or, a renewal request could be clicked.

My Trend Micro expiry is 2022. I did the Ctrl-Alt-Del thing and restarted the laptop thru the Start icon. I clicked on my Trend Micro icon which loaded on my desktop at installation. It said "Disabled", I could gain no access to the program, but another pop up said "Trend Micro is off-line". I shut down and unplugged from power (I am on a satellite network). I rebooted after 20 mins and all appears to be back to normal.

Question: was there a problem with the internet, Trend Micro's server, or was this a scam (or hack)? I want to know if I should expect future problems or not.

Hi, landscape_lyon!

Welcome to Trend Micro Home Users Community.

It's possible that there was a problem with the internet connection and Trend Micro could not connect to the server.
